    1970 Battery recommendation

    Hi Everyone,

I've got a AC Delco Professional Series # 74-6YR battery in my '70 LS5. I got 8-years out of it, but it has now given up the ghost. It's rated at 690 CA, 555 CCA and 270 LTA.

Would this model still be a good choice as a replacement?

    Thanks for the help.

Probably about as good a battery as you'll get today, but I'd use the 7YR battery which is top-of-the-line. The vast majority of automotive batteries today regardless of brand are manufactured by Johnson Controls or Exide.

Purchased a new battery today, updated model is 78-7YR for anyone following this post. 800 CCA

When I pulled the battery out, a former owner wrote the date (6/21/02) he purchase/installed the battery- got 9-years out of the battery.

Kurt I am still using a AC Delco75P-7 year Professional Platinum battery I installed in my 68 Corvette on 3-15-2002.
Previous battery in the 68 was a AC Delco Tough One Plus 1000 that I installed on 10-6-1993.
          Excellent service from both batterys.

The car must have been in Portland in 2002 --- Jerry Hickey is a long-time NCRS member and the Corvette sales specialist at Wentworth Chevrolet in Portland.

I can't tell from the small picture in your avatar, but is it possible that '70 LS5 was owned by Alan Cohen at that time?
