    Glass Code Question

I'm preparring my glass for reinstallation and came across a glass code question. My 67 coupe #276 should have been built in the first week of production. Front winshield is UA, rear glass is LA, left side door JA and left wing XA.
Now for the question/concern right side door glass YJ (Oct 65) and wing is XJ (Feb 65) this doesn't make sence, however I have many 66 parts on my early 67. If the glass was replaced at some time, I wouldn't think the date would be early, you would think it would be later or is it possible old inventory got mixed up in the assembly line?
    Any ideas or OPEX?

    Re: Glass Code Question

Michael - FYI, here are the various glass date codes on the windows of our early 67, S/N 1476. We bought the car in 1983 but as far as I can tell the all the window glass appears to be original. The car is a coupe equipped w/ C60 air conditioning so all the glass is "SOFT-RAY."

    Windshield - UA (July '66)
Driver Door - UA (July '66); Vent - VJ (Dec '65)
Pass Door - UA (July '66); Vent - IA (June '66)
    Rear - GA (April '66)

I have to admit I hadn't paid much attention to the specific dates since when I have the car judged the glass date codes were acceptable, i.e. within 1 year prior to the car's assembly date; so I found it interesting that the Driver Vent had a December 1965 production date; but I wasn't particularly surprised.

Your October 1965 door glass fits the guideline but I find it interesting that one of the vent glass date codes is markedly prior to the car's assembly date as is one of them on our car.

Anyway, I like the originality aspect so if the vent glass is an original piece, i.e. either "SAFETY PLATE" or "SOFT-RAY," and if there is no reason for you to think or know from some evidence that the one vent window has been replaced, I'd reinstall it on the car because reproduction glass just isn't the same as the original. But, it's your car so it's your call.

I don't think that '67 Corvette Production back in 1966 & 1967 went by the NCRS guidelines and somehow I get the feeling from the things we see on these cars from time to time that inventory control wasn't their strong suite.

    Have fun. Pete

      Re: Glass Code Question

Michael, my early 67 (car # 183) had mainly "summer of 66" glass in it. I have 3 of the 4 side panels original to the car. I'm not in front of my info right now, but from memory, I think they were June/July '66. Many other parts on the car were Aug 66.

Perhaps they cleaned out some old inventory with your car? Dunno. Seems unlikely that the glass was replaced later in life with '65 glass. Maybe it is '75 glass?
