    Mid-year Fan Clutch

Who does a nice job of rebuilding or restoring a mid-year fan clutch?

Fred did mine also, a great job. He did it about 3 years ago but it took 18 months. Everyone that is good has a backlog. I'll bet that todays backlog is over 2 years. Ask the question, how long?

      Good Luck.

Check the Driveline. There's a member that does the same quality of job, only faster and cheaper than Fred. A 2 year wait is total B.S.

It takes Fred many hours to rebuild one of these fan clutches and he does this as a side-line, not his primary job. So, depending upon how many he gets and how much time he has available, the line can get quite long.

Fred does not solicit business, at all---folks seek him out.

I was only pointing out an alternative for those that may want it done in a timely manner and don't want to deal with someone that does the job "when they feel like it".

Yes, I agree. Seeking out another source is probably the best bet. Someone else might do it as a full time occupation and, consequently, would be able to offer much faster turnaround. I think Fred would be the first one to agree that if one wants it back in a relatively short time-frame, he (Fred) is not the one you want to go to.

However, I do not think that Fred does these clutches "when he feels like it". As I said, this is a side-line for him and there are LOTS of folks who send their clutches to him knowing that the return is indefinite. These include a lot more than "Corvette guys". Each fan clutch gets in line and the clutches are done as Fred has available time. I don't think that Fred accepts fan clutches and promises a quick turnaround. Understanding the time required, folks send them to him at their own choice.

I had Fred rebuild my fan clutch about 8 years ago and at that time it took about 3 months to get the part back. It did come out looking like a new part. It worked well for about 3 years then started to leak oil. It now sits on my work bench. I bought the current GM part and have had no trouble. I would only go through the rebuild for judging and use the GM part for driving.

According to the add in Driveline, Dan is the member who does fan clutches.; (813) 477-6217

That is exactly what I always recommend.
