Help the history of 1965 tires and the tech manual?

I was hoping to get some clarification as I am a bit confused as I read the tech manual for 65's. For context I am looking for information on 65's delivered with steel wheels.

As i read the 65 judging manual it mentions the 5 tire brands that were available. My questions and maybe stupid ones are

Which tire brands were bw, ww, and gs?

Was there one brand that was more common than another from the factory?
(i know ww option p92 were the largest quantity delivered.)

it mentions bw as standard but if I read it correctly they were discontinued very early. So then what type of tire was standard moving forward....ww's?

Lastly, Was the spare always a match to the 4 delivered on the car?

Thanks in advance for the education.

    Rick -

I don't have a '65 JG, but the '63-'64, '66, and '67 JG's answer the questions about types, brands, and sidewalls in detail.

The spare tire and wheel were identical to the four road wheels/tires.

Sometimes a novice will read the description of tires and fail to pay attention to the distinction between base/standard and factory optional equipment. In doing this they see the optional BW tire (P91 in 1965) and miss the designation that this was for a BW tire with NYLON cord construction! They miss the fact that the base car tire was also a BW but NOT made from nylon cord.

Once in a great while this distinction 'hangs' a restorer at Bloomington where they expect cars to have their window stickers in place and there's a difference between equipment shown on the sticker vs. what's actually on the car!!!

        Hi,
I may be a novice mis-reading but I read in the 65 TIM- Judging Guide that WW and BW tires offered were:

        Goodyear Power Cushion
        Firestone Deluxe Champion
        US Royal Laredo
BF Goodrich Silvertown 660 or 770
        General Jet-Air II

the Gold Stripe tires offered were:

        Firestone Super Sports
        Goodyear Power Cushion

Jack, don, appreciate the info but didn't appreciate the tone....Once again an ncrs member with the derogatory "novice" comments....kudos!!!! You serve the hobby well....

I am a novice to the board just looking for some help understanding the manual and making sure I am reading correctly or incorrectly as you so wonderfully articulated....

John, thanks for the tip I will take a look at those manuals as well

you're welcome Rick, and I hope my info was a help. There is no tone in my post.
I thought it answered your 1st question, at least so far as I read it. My disclaimer says that I am a novice, and might well be mis-reading, or mis-understanding.
I do not know the answers to your 2nd and 3rd questions. Mr. Hinckley answered your 4th question.
I'm sure someone else will pipe in with answers to 2 and 3.
            Welcome to the club!
