Re: 091 coil configuration for 63

Ken, that 'irrefutable' was a bit tongue in cheek. I think we'd be hard pressed to find any 48 year old part that we could say for sure had not been messed with a bit, even those on low mileage 'original' cars

John, I think they maybe had multiple tools for the 091, so all these variations are probably mostly real.

In any case, I'd like to put an original 091 on my car, but if coils are going for a grand a pop, this hobby is quickly getting too expensive....

Michael, Personally if it was old JD here I would install a nice readily available original 202 and lay back waiting for an 091 to pop up some day where you least expect it. The NOS one on my 63 came from a local buddy who hits all the local fleas. It was quite reasonable as I recall.
Is it 022 or 202. Whew!!! JD

        Thanks John,

I can wait. I've got a pretty-much-correct repop 091 for now. I might just replace the studs with some non-dog-point magnetic ones and worry about some of the other stuff that I can find...

Hello; There are two different issues of the 091 coils. The first was used until late 62 and had NO rectangular bosses between the tower and the 2 treaded studs. The 091 number was located at the bottom end of the coil as opposed to most other coils that have the numbers on the top end of the coil. The late 62 and 63 "091" coil had the rectangular bosses on them as did all coils that came after late 1963. The plating on them was zinc which had a silver color to it and some times a green patina.....You must use the D-1111 Balliste resistor when using the 091 coil on a 340 and 360 HP car. The repros are wrong and the company that makes them will not change the tooling to make them right......

Thanks for your input, Andy, I'm amazed at the number of reproduction parts that the producers do not bother to make like the original. The use of stainless on the studs of these repro coils is just incomprehensible: carbon steel studs are widely available and cheaper

Oh well, now to find a correct resister...
