For 1969, there were springs on both upper latch plates.

Consult with your plater regarding plating the spring(s). Depending on the process he uses there may be some damage to a spring during plating. You might have to remove the spring(s) if your plater recommends doing so. If it were me I would remove them anyway.

I'd definitely remove the springs before phosphating the latches. For one thing, the springs were not originally phosphate-finished. They were black oxide, at least on the 68-L69.

Would you have the #'s and info. on them Joe L. The colors look all about the same though. Had to reload cause the file was too large

I can only find two sets of part numbers for 1968-L69 although there may have been a third set. The latch in the center appears to me to be a GM #3948141. This latch was used for later 1968 through later 1969.

One of the other two is a GM #3922201 but I don't know which one.

There may have been another design that pre-dated the 3922201. However, if there was it's not shown in the AIM and it was never available in SERVICE.

It's also possible that there was more than one "version" of any of the above part numbers which could have involved a change to the specifications for that part number. I have no information on that.

That one on the right was for sure a first first design, I think, that it used the brass barrel attchment for the crossover cable and it had a 90 degree bend at the tip of the left latch. You see these alot on early 68 cars. At one time the tip was straightened with the wire passing through the hole and bent slightly to make the connection with the brass barrel clamp. I don't know for sure which was first, the straight version or the 90 degree bent one. Then they went to the later style as shown in the 68 AIM and continued into 69. The cables were different throughout the 68 year also.

DUH. Of course you are right as usual Joe. I got so caught up in hydrogen embitterment (I just love it ) that I forgot the springs are a different finish.
