    1960 gas tank

May be a dumb question, but I need to purchase a new gas tank. Looking at Quanta. The correct tank for my 60 did not have baffling but the later 61-62 did.

Is there any reason not to go with the one that if baffled? Is this something that is judged or can be judged to determine if there is baffling or not?

    Thanks,
    Don

How would judges know that it was a baffled tank without inserting something inside the filler neck or examining the bottom of the tank or top of tank to see spot welds that hold baffles in place? There is no scientific evidence behind my response, just gut talking.

I don't know and thus my question. As someone doing my first restoration and trying to conform to NCRS it sometimes can get frustrating.

I had another thread about U-joints. I need to replace the U-joints as I finish the chassis restoration. The TIM&JG only says that the U-joints need to be the greaseless type. Fine, I found some at NAPA and ZIP. When I put my question on the forum to see who had used or recommended either, the response I got was that neither would pass NCRS judging. The originals have a bowtie cast into the body of the U-joint and a circular configuration.

Now for sure, the TIM&JG makes no mention of this, so there must be a lot of things that are judged that are not mentioned in the TIM&JG. I guess if we were all lucky enough to have an all original car then judging would only be problematic for condition. Not sure what someone like me does who has a car that has many small parts that haven't been original for years and the TIM&JG may or may not be a complete guide!!!!!!!!

Sounds like I am bitching, which is probably true, but this is a very expensive hobby and I just want to do the restoration as correct as I can.

Anyone used the baffled tank in a 60?

I have used the 61/62 tank in the past and no one would ever know unless you did a PV. You can save some money by getting the tank from Auto City Classic @ 800 828 2212.

How do they check tank during a PV?? How can anyone tell if baffles are present after car is assembled?

Lak of hearing the gas sloshing around when cornering.

                Jerry,

Since you've used the baffled tank, what is the big difference as for as driving the car? I'm not planning to be driving my 60 hard afer it is finished, so is there a big deal of baffled versus non-baffled as far as normal curising?

                Thanks,

You will be glad you went with a baffled tank if you park the car on an unlevel area and the gas is leak=ing out on the ground through the vented cap. Ask me how I know.

Just less noise of the gas moving around when the tank is not full.
