    O.T. (Chevelle experts question only)

I know this is way off topic, and if my post needs to be deleted I understand, but I hope someone can give me some help.

I am strongly considering a 1967 Chevelle SS hardtop, 325 HP, that is a "survivor" in every sense of the word. Original paint, original interior, original drive train, excellent body and frame. It has a/c as well. No restoration attemped on anything. From the average collector standpoint the undesirable part is it is a powerglide car with a bench seat. But I feel the survivor status changes the rules a bit, am I right?

It is different from the car I have been looking for (1966 with buckets) but I have a great appreciation for this type of car. I never thought a survivor type car this close to what I had in mind would become available to me in this kind of condition.

Here is where I need help. What is a car like this realistically worth on the open market today? As much as I like this car I do not wish to over pay for it. Any help from those that know about these things is appreciated.

I can't help you with what it is worth, but I think my story will help you. I bought my 1967 Chevelle about 40 years ago (I no longer remember what I paid but I am sure it was in three figures), and just got the restoration started about a year ago. ALL the exterior sheet metal, except the trunk lid, has been replaced and it is painted and the body is about to go back on the frame for the third or fourth time. I could have bought a new Corvette (and not a base model either) for what I have in it so far, and it is a long ways from done. I don't care. It is what I want and so it is priceless. My wife can sell it when I am gone.

OH, and it was a Powerglide, bench seat, 327 -- it will be a tuned port 350 with 700R4 with 4-wheel disks. NOTHING is stock.

I know there is a group that judges Chevrolet tin cars for originality, but I can not think of their name at the moment. Original cars are values highly by some Chevelle enthusiasts. I am not sure thy are a large a percentage of Chevelle collectors as they are among Corvette enthusiasts -- but the disease is spreading. I might see someone at the Ontario Regional who might know the name of that group. I will ask.

Having air conditioning and the condition as described makes it a buy. The powerglide and bench seats can be changed if disired.
I like the 1966 myself more than a 67. I know where a 1966 Chevelle is. It is silver with black interior. Has factory bucket seats, 327 and factory air, 4-speed, console piece still mounted on the floor, factory tach still attached to the steering column. It is not a SS because it does not have the 396, but just an ole original 327. My brother has had it for over 30 years. It is stored in his storage building with his 3 55's. He once offered it to me, but now does not remember saying that.
I am not one who knows the value of the 67 you are looking at. There is a Chevelle club that may help you with the cars value.

Like it or not, the REAL answer lies in the car itself. As Brian Futo is fond of telling his old Cleveland buddies "It is NOT a requirement that you have to replace the floors, the trunk and all 4 quarters".
Take the Friday redeye to Ontario CA before the next Pomona; canvas the Auto Trader ads on Saturday and on Sunday, go look at the 500 cars in the "For Sale" lot, remembering always that the CA license does NOT mean it commenced life at that location.

Larry !! I know exactly the car you are talking about. I also know the person representing it. I have not seen it in person, but have seen the same photos I'm sure you have. I think the car is on the money !!!

Go to Team Chevelle. Also check out chevellestuff.com. Both are great resources for researching Chevelles. Good luck with this endeavor.

I don't think that is the group I am thinking about. I was with a group at Rosemont when they did their first Corvette -- the 300 mile 1972 ZR1. They wanted to start out easy. I'll get it and post -- you just have to be patient.

Mike -- I have to send you pictures of the Deepwater Blue on the 1967 Chevelle. It looks a lot like, but not exactly like, the Daytona Blue 1963 Corvette. It makes my heart flutter.

Go to the Chevytalk.com web site. They cover all Chevys by year groups and type from beginning to today. Here is a link to the Chevelle site.
