    What would you do?

Here is my situation. I have a '65 numbers matching 396 convertible. The car looks fantastic, was body-off restored and runs great. I got the car 2 years ago from ProTeam. It has won most car shows entered and several prestigous "Best of Shows". My dilemma: When the previous owner, (before ProTeam), had it restored he paid huge dollars for a gorgeous non-original paint color; Rallye Red instead of the original Silver Pearl. Can you believe it? Carr Campbell of Carr's Corvettes who is a NCRS quality restoration expert said he thinks the car is too nice to repaint.
My question; if the car is practically original except for the paint is there any hope of getting a "Top Flight".

I totally respect the knowledge and expertise of the members of this forum and appreciate your thoughts.

Sure. Body color is 85 points. You will lose all of them. You can lose 270 and still get Top Flight. There are bonus points for equipment and for driving.

That assumes the trim tag is original and correct; if it has been changed, don't have it judged; it will be branded counterfeit. Not good.

It will NOT be branded counterfeit as long as the trim plate is still intact as it was from GM. You will lose points for the wrong color and that's all. I prefer silver, but to spend the time and money to change a perfectly good paint job for the sake of points is just stupid.

Enjoy the car and don't fret the color change point deducts.

The trim tag is original with a paint code of "QQ"
