I have WD40, just wanted to be sure I wasn't causing a problem for the plater by using some sort of protectant.

Just as a side note on removing WD, a lot of painters cringe when they hear that there was some Wd on the paint. On the racecars, we spray WD directly on the paint to remove tire rubber marks. And I've sprayed many panels that have had this done (but, of course a 50/50 race paint job).
To remove WD all you have to do is hit it with full strength Simple Green and wash with hot water and Dawn dish liquid. I've never had a fisheye doing this so, the WD must be gone.

Water Desicant Formula number 40. Rust protection is what it was designed for. The acid dip the plater does is for degreasing the part, i.e. to remove oils from your fingers, or from WD 40, etc.

Media blast is my preference for the large parts, but as for hardware such as bolts, nuts, and washers, I prefer to wire wheel them an then rinse with simple green and water before bring them to the plater. As for tumbling, I think it would be a challenge getting in all the tight spots. With media blasting no matter what material you use it provides you with more control and getting to those difficult areas.

Hey Tom, you do a lot of front end rebuilding. I hot tanked my components but still have old grease inside the pivot arms and end caps. How do you suggest getting out all that old gunk? Boiling in hot water? What works?
