I'm preping to install install firewall insulation and seem to remember that it was sandwiched between the heater box and the firewall. The insulation also fits perfectly around the heater hole in the firewall. So I'm thinking that My memory is correct . Any thoughts ? Thanks Brad

Re: 69 firewall insulation
Hi Brad,
Yes, that's the way the insulation was installed on my 71, no a/c car.
The heater box left a distinct impression in the black layer of the insulation mat.
I believe you can just see it in this picture.

Re: 69 firewall insulation
Thanks again Alan, So the insulation acts as a gasket and no other gasket was used or was a foam seal also used? Also what did you use for the black tar like sealant used on the outside of the Fan box and other firewall grommets ? Thanks Brad- Top

Re: 69 firewall insulation
Hi Brad,
I used black roofing cement in some places and 3M Black strip seal in others.
I made it only as messy as my 'sensibilities' would allow. So its not quite like St. Louis did it.
