    67 Front Grill

After searching the archives I have been unable to locate a close-up (macro) photo the rivets used to attach the grill. There was an excellent discussion on 65 just not a 67. I would appreciate seeing a photo(s) of this rivet from anyone who has photos or the ability to take a photo for me. I prefer the peened rivet rather than the less frequently use pop rivet.

    Thanks for your help
    James

Hi James, is this close enough or do you need a better shot? I don't believe the screws holding the grill on are correct but the rivet is the peened type.

        Jim,
The rivets are correct in Steve's photo. Scott's the rivet is inserted from wrong side. A bit fussy but just the way the originals were done.

Also the aluminum rivets on the fiber glass securing the sheet metal braces (4 each side) should be blacked out with braces.

          Re: 67 Front Grill

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Perhaps the primary thing I need to see is the peened head of the rivet. I want to duplicate this as closely as I can. I am told in the judging process that the heads are not just rounded over heads. A very close-up photo, perhaps with a macro setting would be even more helpful.

What is being done for the rivets to get through the more recent judgings? When reading through an excellent 65 restoration post in the archives there was a discussion about setting the rivets with a shop modified drift pin to create what almost looks like a small washer wish is created from punching the head. The characteristics of the head is what I really need to see.

Thanks again for all help with this!

          James

Thanks for catching that Gene, I thought I followed the AIM picture when I inserted those.

Thanks for the input thus far. Does anyone else have very good closeups of original grill rivets or a supplier of rivets which will pass judging?
