    BC/CC match for Lacquer??

Repainting (along with replacement of most of the damaged nose) of my Silver Pearl '66 is scheduled late this year. I do not feel its present repaint accurately matches original. (I’m a paint novice, but agree with the PO’s NCRS judging sheet that says it’s too dark with “too much green tint”.) I’ve been unable to find any remaining original paint under the carpets or door sills.

The plan is for base coat/clear coat. Although there are no plans to show the car, I want it to appear as close to the original color/metallic content as possible. I will have the door jams, etc dulled down to simulate the appearance of the original lacquer finish. (I’m ok with the fact my resulting paint job will probably be overrestored and look better than an original '60s vintage Corvette paint job.)

I’m told the paint suppliers' color libraries are not necessarily accurate in providing a perfect match / conversion from lacquer to BC/CC.

I’ve searched the archives, but haven’t seen an answer to my question: Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of a BC/CC that’s an accurate match? Has anyone used a ‘replacement’ color code from a particular supplier and been satisfied the result is a close match to original?

Any paint code or make/year/model info that leads to good candidates will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Bob, I have been told and also seen 1st hand that Dupont reformulated their BC/C colors to match some of the more popular older colors including most corvettes. That't not saying all aspects of all colors are going to be perfect. I know they aren't but I do believe that the Dupont corvette colors are more accurate than others. I know others will disagree but haveing said all that,I will be shooting that color in the very near future. If you aren't in a big rush and you would like I will shoot a sample of it and send to you.

          Bob,

I would recommend sending Tom Ames an email through this board. He gave the paint seminar at the Joplin regional. He knows where to find the original paint color on your car if it's there. He also knows how to best match the color using other materials than lacquer.
