C2 and C3 spare tire size

I've been driving the 68 and 67 without a spare. So far so good. I went to local tire store and bought two cheap radials for each and they don't fit into the tubs. Not even close. Do I have to buy reproductions of originals or has anyone had any luck with narrow radials? If so what worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    James,

Any 205 x 70 or 75 should fit the bucket.

What size tires did you buy?

          I bought P225/70 for the 68
          P205/75 for the 67
Both on correct size rallies and neither come close to fitting. Even thought about using longer bolts on the hinge side of tub to give me more room.

Did these cars have the same size rally for a spair?
          Thanks all,

Do you have 6 inch wheel for the 67 and a 7 inch for the 68?

              James -

I have a 205/75-15 Firestone Supreme Si on a 6" N89 bolt-on aluminum rim on my '67 (same as my road tires), and it just fits; I have the "long" front hanger bolts, and the tray has about a 3/4" gap to the bottom edge of the tub at the rear. Note that I have a reproduction tub, which is slightly larger in diameter than the original; many original tubs won't accept any kind of 205/75-15 tire.

A common "fix" for a functional spare tire is to use a late 90's S-10 truck compact spare (T155/60D15); same bolt pattern, and the wheel clears the Corvette caliper.
