    Re:2x4 intake manifold

I'm in the process of restoring a 57 manifold. My question is how much can be machined from the gasket surfaces for a leak free fit. THe current surfaces are in need of resurfacing. As far as I know, the engine has not been decked. Need some specs. Thanks

if you cut the manifold you will need a thicker intake gasket to get the bolt holes to align because it will drop down farther into the valley between the heads. i just use a body shop sanding board to clean up intakes.

if you do need to cut the manifold there are extra thick gaskets but they are after market. i guess you could glue 2 stock gaskets together if you had too

During a recent project I looked into intake gaskets.
The typical gasket is specified at around 0.062".
If a thicker one is needed a few racers suggested gluing 2 of these gaskets together using weatherstrip adhesive.
The other option is Jegs or Summit ( or other parts suppliers) who sells a FelPro gasket which is 0.120" thick. I think the pn is FP1245.

But in my opinion cleaning up with a file or a sanding board should be sufficient.
