    Pitted original vs. New reproduction?

I have often wondered during my restoration, what will you get dinged less for during judging-a replated / refinished but noticeably pitted original part, or a non original but better condition reproduction (assuming NOS is not an option)? Where are the points most effected-condition or originality? (keep in mind I'm a rookie to the judging process so I genuinely do not know) There have been a couple threads recently touching on this topic and I wondered what others do in this situation, replate or replace?

I can't speak to the core of your question but I suspect that from a judging perspective you'd be better off with the original parts in pitted condition than reproductions (assuming that the reproductions could be discerned from original).

However, to me, there's little that looks worse than a corrosion-pitted component. It makes even an otherwise nicely restored car look "old". So, for me, I'd never use a pitted component that could not be restored to remove the pitting, especially a seriously pitted component. Never.

Joe, I think I agree based on the fact that when faced with the choice, I opt for the fresh reproduction that is the closest match to original. As a result I have amassed a small pitted pile of origianls though.

Judging will be interesting to see how it nets out I guess
