70 Ignition & Spark Plug Shielding?

In the pursuit of a Top Flight Award; what are the thoughts/consensus on installing the original (but somewhat used/corroded) ignition/spark plug shielding or rechroming the originals or installing reproductions?

Is one preferred over the other?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Personally? I prefer having original shielding (and other GM chrome plated items back in the day) flash chromed by a plater who knows how to flash chrome. If a plater triple chromes items then the finished products are way too shiny. Reproductions are the same but I think they are not of the same quality metal as OEM. Some will argue reproductions are better.
The surface rust and corroded areas will come through as pitted and duller than the surrounding areas after flash chroming. You might try finding original pieces in better condition to replace the ones that are corroded.

I always prefer to use nice but imperfect original parts with original platings over replated originals or repos in perfect condition. And on the way to my Top Flights I had many judges comment approvingly about my original parts, even if they occasionally took a minor deduction for condition. If the original part is in too bad a shape I'd next opt for replated originals, then repos.
