69 Splash shields steel vs plastic

My car had plastic splash shields (the ones in front of foot wells) when I bought it. I bellieve they were original (but don't know for sure). The JM says that late in 69 the material was changed to steel. Can anyone tell me about what date the change was made?

I am asking because the repro plastic ones started melting right away.

the metal ones will hold the exhaust heat and make your floor board hotter and that is why on the midyears we took them off and threw them away.

Mike there was a thread about when the shields changed to metal about a year or so ago. See if you can find it in the archives. I remember some original late 69's having the white plastic shields in that thread. Some of the repo shields are or were made of the wrong material. They were damaged by heat. Mine have been on the car since it was restored in the early 90's. They are still ok. About 8,000 miles. No discoloration or melting. Not sure where they came from. Maybe Paragon ?

My original-owner, mid-September, 1969 built car was originally equipped with the white plastic shields.

So do any 69s have the metal shields?

                    Don,

Whiuch November. There were two of them during the 1969 model year.

We haven't heard from November 1969 or December 1969 yet.

Seems like the survey done many years ago did not find any metal shields. I will have to dig that out from the pile in my office.

OOPS! No toe pan shield data in survey. Only shield in survey is headlamps.
