guys, thinking of buying a new corvette (keeping my 61) and doing a cross country trip (long island to california), my question is would a coupe or convertible allow me more space? i know the convertible has a small trunk, and coupe with the t-tops off has little or no storage, any ideas? what makes matters worse is i'm 6'2", 255lbs...this trip will be appx 15,000 miles covering 8 weeks (60th birthday present to myself) lol...thanks, rich...(#1213)

Re: interior space on new corvette
What are the odds you'd ever remove the top on a coupe, or drive with the top down on a convertible?
The coupe has a lot more room - until you have to stow the roof panel.
I think I've removed mine 3 times in 3 years. When I travel it stays on, as it's not much fun at 70 mph.
If you plan on a very leisurely drive and want the top down then you'll go convertible and plan to wash your clothes often.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: interior space on new corvette
Buy a Z06 and you will have no roof storage issue.
The coupe will hold an amazing amount of junk, but the car ca be overloaded. I wore out the inside two inches of the rear tires during the Road Tour to San Jose, mostly on the way back. I didn't notice it until I smelled rubber at every stop on the way back. The trip back was the most fun I had for two and one half days straight. We did 800 mile days with no effort.
My advice = get a coupe and take the time to smell the roses and not the burnt rubber.Terry- Top

I have traveled in both and would suggest the coupe for the long distance road trip.Tom Hendricks

Re: interior space on new corvette
Richard,
I'm a couple inches taller and few #'s lighter than you. Wife and I drive a '98 convertible on all manner or short and long trips in the spring and fall and love it. Cannot store as much as a coupe but really nice if you are planning to go slow thru national forest and mountains. You will have to pack light but you can stuff a lot in. Just pack with the roof down.
If you purchase anything on the trip you can have it shipped home.
I can put a lot more in the '98 than my '65 vert or the '87 coupe I had when the roof panel was stored in it.
If you are doing a lot of high spped driving and are concerned about security of the car when parked you may want the coupe.
Enjoy the trip ! and retirement - gas prices are slipping back down so now is the time to go.

Re: interior space on new corvette
Coupe has plenty of space. We travel with 2 carry on pieces and 2 leather soft sides; leaves room for small ice chest and laptop case. Plus have 2 hidden storage bids in back on both sides. Enjoy the trip. Then Plan on national road tour to San Diego convention next year with us.- Top

Re: interior space on new corvette
just don't put any chocolate candy back there because the storage is right over the mufflers and the stuff get real warm. i keep a ziplock bag with a wet microfiber towel back there to clean the bug off of the front of the car and it gets as warm as bath water on a trip.- Top

Re: interior space on new corvette
Rich, I own a '07 coupe and I've had the roof off only 3 or 4 times. With the roof off it's quite noisy and the air turbulence and buffeting in the cabin is uncomfortable. My wife doesn't like it either 'cuz it messes up her hair. You can purchase a trunk hatch "holder-upper-thingy" to reduce the turbulence, but I don't know how effective they are.
When choosing to go for a long ride lately, trying to decide between my '59 and the '07 is simple. Short cruises and car shows in the '59.......serious trips and we're in the C6.
When you get your C6 you won't want to get out of it, they're awesome cars!
