    C2 Manual recommendations

I just bought a driver quality 66 coupe and need to do some work to get it ready for safety inspection. E.g. horns work but not from the horn button, and some other electrical issues with lights and wipers.

I am ordering an AIM and Owners Manual. Is there an equivalent to the C1 ST-12 for the 66? I see in publication section there is a set of 63 to 65 service manuals, and then there is the 66-82 Shop Manual.

For the 66, does the 66-82 Shop Manual cover what the ST-12 does for a C1?

    Thanks,

    Don

66 chassis manual, or 66 service manual, both can be found on the fleebay.

      Donald,

The 1966 Chassis Service Manual is publication ST 72, and the 1966 Chassis Overhaul Manual is publication ST 73. Like Ron says, they can be found online, and swap meets, etc. They're pretty common. You should be able to find them without too much trouble.

        Donald -

The 1966 Chassis Service Manual is essential, and the NCRS Store has it. You'll have to go to eBay to get the 1966 Chassis Overhaul Manual.

The "1966-82" Shop Manual is a non-GM "mongrel" publication; I'd pass on it and get the right one I noted above.

            Donald,

RepairManual.com has the 1966 Chassis Overhaul Manual ST 73 for $23.44 plus shipping. It's certainly a good companion publication to go along with the Chassis Service Manual ST 72. I've gotten my money's worth out of both manuals over the years. Good luck with your 1966 Corvette.

BTW, if the horns work when the relay is energized externally, the likely culbrit is corrision (rust) in the switch contact area. not a real big job to pull it off, disassemble, clean the contact surfaces just to be sure.

Yes, I found the problem to be in the button/contact area. I removed and shorter across the steering shaft and the horn ring on the signal switch and the horns worked. Next I will explore whether it is the horn button, contact or brush causing the problem.

                  Thanks,
