    Thanks to Duke and all the others who helped me out. Problem solved. Had really three problems.

    1. Wrong vac advance can

    2. Not only was the can wrong, it was somehow installed in a way that jammed the base plate from moving.

    3. Fan clutch replaced. MUCH more air flow coming through the rad now at idle.

    Vac can is now a B26. The fan clutch is aftermarket but this car is a driver, not ready for prime time. The old fan clutch MAY be original, or at least closer to correct. If it is I will try to get it rebuilt.

      Rich, happy to here your back on the road again and your 66 is running great , Duke and others have helped several corvette owners with there cars. it's nice to be able to use the tech discussion board for all of us. jim

        A functionally incorrect or inoperative VAC is a common cause of idle/low speed hot running, but it's nice that this fix is both cheap and simple!

        In addition to plenty of cooling, you should also have a smoother and more stable idle.
