Orig dog dish wheel covers vs. repops

How do you tell the difference? Just bought a "lightly used orig set" but not certain they are as advertised. How about the spinners?

Can originals be restored or is one out of luck since they are made of stainless steel? Same question for spinners.

Dog dish hubcaps do not have spinners and are not made of stainless steel.

Oops, I suppose I have my terminology incorrect. These have 10 sections and a spinner. I see in the judging manual, page 44 what the dog dish looks like. I don't know the proper name of what I have but I might call them puppy dishes, as 10 pups could eat around this one!

Now that I know the difference, the question remains

Ken,
The hubcap itself can be straightened and the dings removed. The problem is that the originals had flash chrome on them and it seems a problem to get good flash chrome.
The spinners are available as reproductions but I do not know how good they are. They are made of pot metal and not very practical to restore.
My recommendation is if the look good , use them as they are.

Ken, the original wheelcovers can be restored. Paul's Chrome does an excellent job removing dents and with the flash chrome. Google "Paul's Chrome". I believe there was a recent, past couple of weeks(?), about the "nubs" on th eback side of the spinners.

Ken, some of the vendors are starting to put their logos on the inside of the spinners that are visible with a mirror. Gary....

This is a test to evaluate your degree of precociousness...

Look at the pictures and try and identify the 4 objects.

One is a 56 to 58 Corvette hubcap.
One is a dog dish hubcap.
One is a 59 to 62 Corvette hubcap.
One is Spankys dog dish.

That's why the "big" ones are called "wheel covers" and the "little" ones are called "hubcaps" (or "dog-dishes").
