    1954 Engine Fan

A simple question here I suppose regarding the 4-blade fan for a 1954 Corvette. I believe the fan pully used on the Corvette is different from that used on the pass car and truck. Is the fan blade the same or is it unique to the Corvette as well?
I have a fan that came with the 1962 engine that sat in the car when I purchased it so not sure if I can reuse the fan from it or not.
    thanks!

As far as Chevrolets go, both the fan blade assembly and water pump pulley are unique to Corvettes for 1953-55 6 cylinder applications.

The fan was GM #1344087 and the pulley was GM #3706007.

Well just to share a little about my car when I purchased it .... it was not running - had installed a pass car water pump and pully - who knows what fan and 2 (yes two) chewed up radiators each having a nice cresent shaped imprint in the flattened fins. Hmmm do ya think there was a problem with there.
Thanks for the help and advice - sure would not want to have a chewed up third radiator.

        John,

The 1344087 fan was discontinued in February 1976.
The 3706007 pulley is described as 6 5/8" O.D. with 1 3/4" bolt circle as per my 1969 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (effective Oct. 1968) and was discontinued December 1968 as per Chevrolet Parts History.

As Joe said, applications were for 53-55 Corvette 6 cyl. models only.

It seems that the fan is too close to the radiator. Do you have a broken motor mount?

        Good luck in your search.

          John,

I just did a search through my 1966 Hollander.

Fan # 1344087 (4 blades), Hollander fan #1, is listed for the following:
          1957 Buick w/o AC
          1961-1963 Buick
          1964-1966 400,401, and 425 wo/ HD cooling or AC
          1965-1966 Buick Special 400 wo/AC

There is no fan listed for the 1953-1955 Corvette w/6 cyl.

The 1344087 fan is also listed in a Buick parts catalog (photo enclosed).

The 1344087 fan is listed in my 1955 Corvette Parts Catalog (July 1955) for 1953-1955 Corvettes (exc. V8).

Check with vendors that sell old Buick parts. You may find a 1344087 fan.

Thank you Dave - thank you Joe for your valuable information. this will get me a long way in my search.

Regarding the possibility of a broken motor mount - you would not believe the welding job Bubba was able to accomplish to get the GMC engine in the compartment (different mounting bolt pattern). Guess to sum it all up there were too many problems tring to fit the later 6cly into the compartment so the car never was able to run so the project was stopped and the car stored away for over a decade before I aquired it.

            More to follow !
