I need some assistance in troubleshooting a small problem with the turn signals on my 68. I recently had to use the emergency flashers and after turning them off the turn signals would not work. I conducted some basic trouble shooting; checked the fuse, connections in the steering column (non-tilt column), switch contact, all to no avail. The car has been totally rewired and all switches that were not replaced were cleaned. This problem occurred one other time after using the emergency flashers and was quickly remedied by turning the flashers on and off; however, this time the same action did not resolve the issue. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Re: 68 Turn Signal Help
Anthony just for reference, tilt wheel was not available in 1968. Telescopic option was. Although you have tried to turn on your emergency flashers and then turn them off to fix your problem of your turn signals not working, I think the problem developed when you used your emergency flashers. Something in the activation process has disabled your trun signals from working.- Top

Had the same problem with my 67 signal switch which is the same on a 68.
Take a look at this thread on the culprit I found after having the emergency flasher on for an extended period:
There are also a number of threads on my trials with the signal switch, one of which includes a wiring diagragm of the 67-68 signal switch. Just do an advanced search under my forum name/number and "Signal Switch".
Most problems, I think are related to the cam on the switch.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: 68 Turn Signal Help
Anthony,
Here's another thread about problems with my 67 signal switch, and a wiring diagram:
If you take a look at the wiring diagram in the post you can probably figure out the problem.
When you push in the hazard switch on the column, it disconnects the signal flasher circuit to the cam, and connects the hazard flasher circuit to the cam (the fronts are hard wired, the rear lights go through the cam).
So if you have a hazard flash front and rear when you push in the switch, and no or intermittant signal flash front or rear when you pull out the switch, the problem is either in the hazard switch (not reconnecting signal flasher on pullout), the one wire between the hazard switch and cam, or the cam itself.
I would suspect the cam, from what you describe.Last edited by Gerard F.; May 26, 2011, 09:28 AM.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: 68 Turn Signal Help
Gerard,
I was able to work on the problem over the weekend and the switch was the culprit. Thanks to your previous posts the issue was quickly resolved and I’m back on the road.
Thanks again,

Re: 68 Turn Signal Help
Tony,
Glad to be of assistance.
If you put in a replacement switch, make sure the signal lever is not loose fore and aft. The final resolution of my problems with replacement 67-68 signal switches was to replace the original lever screw with a shorter screw and a lock washer, to keep the lever rigid and apply a constant pressure on the cam.
Just a tip to make it last longer.Jerry Fuccillo
