I am looking for photos or a detailed description of the correct oil pan for a 1962 340HP oil pan. Everything I find seems to relate to 1960 or earlier and may not be correct for me. There is apparently a good article from On Solid Ground, Volume 11, Number 3, p. 11, Fall 2004, "A Study of Solid Axle Factory Correct Oil Pans", by Loren Lundberg. but I don't know how to get hold of it to see if it covers 62's. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: On Solid Ground articles , 62 oil pan
I just received my copy. Loren's article does not have pictures of a 3789629, which is the pan for your '62, but is does have pictures of a 3769761, which is correct for a '60 and '61. The 3789629 is almost identical. It may be identical from the outside.
The things to look for in a 3789629 are 3 steps, one long rib on each side (only; not three ribs), an opening for the front seal that measures 2-1/4 (not 2-3/8) and an internal trap door.
edit: do a search on 3789629- Top

Attached are a couple of pictures from my '62, excuse the dents, it is an old warrior. Also as I recall the 62 Judging guide has a listing of the most distinctive features. If you need pass side pics please let me know.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: On Solid Ground articles , 62 oil pan
Thanks everyone. As always , the people of the NCRS come through. I am a bit surprised, considering how detailed the judging manuals are, that they don't have a table or something showing 1962 SHP = ribs-1 per side / trapdoor - yes / steps - 3 or whatever etc. Maybe someone is working on it as we speak. It seems unfair (I am new to this ) that you can lose judging points for details not mentioned in the guide.
Bill, It looks like you only have one rib per side? Is that so? Also , Is your car a solid lifter and when was it "born". Just wondering if there was a time when the change took place on the assembly line from the 3769761 (60/61 trapdoor) pan to the 3789629(62 trapdoor). Mine is a March 27 1962 ,340Hp, I wouldn't call it a warrior, but I certainly love to drive it around.- Top

Yes, Fuel car when born, relatively early car, #1843, '62 is different than '61 and earlier. I thought I had pictures of it off the car, but I've searched everywhere and can't find it.Last edited by William C.; May 23, 2011, 06:07 PM.Bill Clupper #618- Top

I've included a shot of the baffle that went with the pan.

Yes, as described I believe in the Judging Guide as a "Three step" pan.Bill Clupper #618- Top
