    Adjusting 62 side glass help

    Hello,

    Question 1:

I am getting the 62 back together and have been having a problem aligning the 2 side windows. The passengers side needs to come up a little in the back, and the drivers side needs to come up a bit in the front.

It basically like like the glass needs to be tipped forward or backwards to close the gaps.

I have attempted to adjust the glass this is the best I can get. Any tips?

    Question 2:

I do not know if I am being overly picky, but there has always been a slight gap on the windshield trim lower right side. I forgot about this till I put the car together. The windshield is secured in place and I cant not close that gap. Along the rest of the edge it all looks great. Are gaps like this expected? Anything I can do?

Thanks again for all of the help,

    Tony

I've seen far worse winshield to body gaps--but from the factory that gap wasn't there. I'm not sure how to make it go away.
The windows are typical fit--they didn't keep the rain out, they just redirected it a bit. It does appear that you have the typical issue with the side bows in the top not being straight--Joe Calcagno did a Restorer article years ago on how to straighten them.

I am working from memory here...

I believe, you can adjust the window regulator mechanism a bit where it attaches to the inner door . That may alter your window attitude to more correct.

The windows do not ride in the fuzzie door post channel on the way or up, or down, but they seat into the fuzzies as they close, at full raise.

My '61 was pretty water tight, even in driving rain storms, when I bought in in 1974, and everything was pretty well worn out by then. Your car should be fairly leak free when restored, though with repop parts, it may not be water tight.

BTW, the windshield frame gap there is normal.

I agree with Mike, these cars were not very water tight when new. I've had several and only one was even close to being water tight. Remember how old the car is and all the twists and bends and etc. it has gone thru. Heck I'm not as water tight as I was 50 years ago. The windows can be a real pain. Some cars they adjust up great, others never adjust to perfect fit.

For that windshield gap, what do others do to make it less obvious? Fill it with paintable putty (such asdumb dumb), or just leave it?

              Thanks,
              Tony

Forgot mention, check the upper side window stops to see if that is preventing the window from fully raising.

The upper window stops are not hitting at this point, It appears to be more of a track alignment where the regulator needs to be tipped. I have loosened all of the regulator screws and tried to move it, but it will not shift.

                  Thanks,

                  Tony

One thing to recognize is the 'gap' is NOT fully associated with the side glass...

First, the soft top side rail has adjustment(s) and MANY were abused by prior owners...the center pivot not being periodically lubricated resulting in the rail(s) bending/deformation.

Second, there's adjustment associated with the soft top frame's mounting to the body itself. If that's not right to start with, all the glass adjustment in the world won't give you a satisfactory result.

                      Jack,

                      >>>>>>Second, there's adjustment associated with the soft top frame's mounting to the body itself.<<<

I assume that you are referring to the 2 mounting points (inner and outer brackets) on each side.

Any guidance on making this adjustment? Everything else on the soft top appears to be fine.

                      Thanks,

                      Tony
