    61-62 Antenna Fully RETRACTED Height?

What is the correct height of the OEM Ward antenna when it is fully collapsed? Is it in any of the manuals? I have two antenna(ae) for my 62, both have the WARD on the lower body as described in the 61-62 judging manual. Neither has the "Bowtie" on the opposite face. They aren't repros as far as I know.

62-2 tops Roman Red awaiting 327/340 rebuild.

My #0029 length from the top of the black ferrel at the base to the very tip when pushed all the way down is 10 3/4". Other experts may chime in.

Mine, which I strongly believe to be original, measures as follows:

1.) from the car body to the tip top of the fully retracted antenna is 11 5/8 inches.

2.) from the bottom of the black ferrel to the tip top of the antenna is 10 1/2 inches.

3.) from the top of the black ferrel to the tip top of the antenna is 10 inches.

Hal, Your antenna should also have 7-173 with WARD. Not all 61 and 62 antennas had the bowtie. Most 61's did not have the bowtie while most 62's did have it. The main mast on an original antenna should move approximately 6". I don't have the measurements with me of have far it sticks out above the fender.

Don't mean to hijack, but what antenna did 57s use? My 57 has a Ward 7-173 - no Bowtie, but it is not original to the car as the car was originally radio delete. Thanks -Dan-

Dan 56 thru 60 antennas are totally different. They have no 7-173, no WARD and no bowtie. They only have a symbol of some sort. Also the lower tube is not removable as it is on 61 and 62. The main mast will only move approximately 2".

Thanks Paul. I kinda figured as much. But at least it looks like I have a Corvette antenna. I will settle for that much. -Dan-

Paul and all thanks for the replies. Both my antennae are marked WARD and they fit the curve of the fender correctly but the "main" (lowest section) of the one that is currently installed in the car etends about 15 inches above the black plastic ring ( ferrule) and does not appear to want to retract any further. Haven't checked the other one yet. I wouldn't think a repro would have gone to the trouble of marking the lower casting as "Ward" since that might be a copyright issue. Still scratching my head a little on this question.

Paul, understand that you are "the man" on these antennas. Both of mine are essentially identical and the lower section (in the trunk) is removable...it sort of twists off around a guide pin as I remember(don't have it in front of me at the moment)

I'd be willing to send you my spare, just to get your assessment about it.
                Let me know.

                Thanks,
