What is the correct steering gear lube to use in a stock, mannual, 67 L79, original gear box? Ready to add fluids to trans, engine, steering box, and rearend on frame off. Thanks Jim

Hi jim i think if you use the correct 10 ounce lube it will leak out of the rear seal and onto the frame, this is what happened to mine so i removed the oem lube and replaced it with synthetic grease and it quit leaking, others may dissagree but mine works good and no longer leaks.JR- Top

Chassis grease, as shown in the Corvette lubrication diagram on page 0-21 in the '67 Chassis Service Manual.- Top

John is correct, use a quality automotive suspension/bearing grease. I no longer use Mobil 1 but it is a good grease. Be sure you leave room for expansion, greasing it with the cover on and going by the 2 bolts out of the cover method is not really recommended since gauging the fill level is a crap shoot. The best way is to pull the cover but then you get into setting the lash up. Just don't use gear oil,it will leak out for sure in time.- Top
