I need to replace my tachometer cable and would like to purchase a cable that is a reproduction of the original. My current cable is black with "AC Spark Plug Division" stamped on the edge of the serrated cap at the generator. The NCRS Judging Guide states that 59 and up cables should be black vinyl. In speaking with a representative of Vette Products, he stated that the black vinyl cables were GM service replacements and the original cables were gray. I would like some member feedback before I purchase a new cable.

Re: 1960 Tachometer Cable
The cable on my 60 is black. Unless it was replaced within the first few years (highly unlikely) I'm pretty sure mine is original. I never believe what a vendor says when they are trying to sell me something. If you have a copy of Noland Adams book, the pics. clearly show a black cable.- Top

Re: 1960 Tachometer Cable
Thanks for the confirmation. I searched the internet and looked at numerous 1960 cars for sale "unrestored" and restored and all had black cable covers. Perhaps my cable with "AC Spark Plug Div." on the serrated cap is original. The cable covers probably stand the test of time, but the cables do not. I replaced the cable a couple of times before I figured out a way to keep the cable straight as it comes out of the generator.- Top
