2818s vs 3059s Carb on December 1959-Built Car

I am really confused and wonder if I did not do my homework before I purchased a 2818s carb for my car. The 1958 - 1960 Tech info Manual & Judging Guide states that the 2818s carb was used "through approximately January 1960." However, the 1960 A.I.M., Section 6.0, Page 3, shows that the part numbers for the carb, stud, and air cleaner changed on October 19,1959. I would tend to think that the 1960 AIM would be the best source for the changeover information. The NCRS Guide is just a guide. Can someone shed some additional light on this?

The AIM documentation was dated October 59--when did it actually happen on the line? Before, and the AIM is reflecting that, or after, because the AIM indicates what is to happen when the supply on hand is used up? We never know--that's why we give the best parameters we can in the JG, and continue to study untouched cars.

Mike, just so I understand what you are saying, the revision date shown in the AIM does not mean the actual date that the change occurred? Since the NCRS Judging Guide uses January 1960 as the changeover, there must have been original cars with 2818s carbs that were used to make this decision?

That's correct--all we know is that Oct. 19 is when the documentation took place in the AIM--we don't know when it actually happened.

Thanks John, that answered my questions about revisions, etc. Just because the carb was changed on the sheet October 1959 does not mean that the change occurred that day; depends on how long the change procedure took to go from inception to institution. I will never know when the 2818s carbs were gone and the 3059s carbs commenced. Time to put this one to rest. Thanks to all.
