    1960 Air Cleaner Stud

How long was the original stud?
    Was it all threads?

Corvette Central sells a 1x4 carb stud that is 3-3/8" long with 1" of threads on one end and 1-1/2" of threads on the opposite end; no threads in the center.

    Joe,

Paragon Corvette makes a reproduction of the GM # 3777266 air cleaner stud which is shown in my 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965 Corvette assembly manuals for WCFB carbs. I do not have a 1960 AIM. I believe that it is correct.
Paragon part # 758 for $7.00 with a nice picture.

The 1960 AIM shows the stud to be part number 37772565. Thanks for the info.

Correction: 1960 AIM shows part number 3777256. Paul Mazut stated that he has the correct stud for 1960 1x4; rolled threads instead of cut threads with a "D" stamped in the center of the stud where it is not threaded.

I finally used a magnifying glass to look at the stud part number in the A.I.M. and you are correct, the last 3 digits are 266. The Paragon part shows the stud with a "shoulder" that I assume was to keep from crushing the flimsy aluminum air cleaner cover. A thread in the Archives indicates that the 1960 stud did not have a "shoulder." In summary, Paragon sells the stud with the "shoulder" and claims it is a reproduction of the original stud. Corvette Central sells a totally different stud for the 1960 1x4, and Paul Mazut sells a third version of the stud.

I do not know which stud to purchase. Opinions? Anyone have the original stud installed on their carb?

            Joe,

I would trust Paul Mazut - he has a ton of experience with C1's and wouldn't "steer" you wrong!

Thanks Peter, you just provided the answer to end my deliberation.

                Re: 1960 Air Cleaner Stud

                Joe,

As I said before the 3777266 stud was also used on the 1962-1965 Corvettes with the WCFB carb as shown in their assembly manuals. Enclosed is a photo of the 3777266 stud as shown in the 1963 AIM (Sect. 6, sheet B2.00). The stud obviously has the shoulder. It is possible that the early version of the 3777266 did not have a shoulder but GM usually (but not always) changes the part number when a design change is made.

GM # 3777266 does not appear in my 1963, 1964, 1965, or 1966 Chevrolet parts catalogs. However, it does appear in my 1967, 1968, and 1969 Chevrolet Parts Catalog in Gr. 3.403 and is listed as follows:
                "63 CORVETTE............STUD (1/4-20-20 X 3 1/4)..........3777266"

I have no idea why the 1960-1962 and 1964-1965 Corvettes are not included.

Not all factory installed air cleaner studs are sold "over the counter". The universal studs, GM # 3785256* (1/4-20-20 X 9) and GM # 3785255* (1/4-20-20 X 5) are sold for ALL models.

*NOTE: This is a universal stud that must be cut to the required length.
