Big block LT1 Corvette hood decoding

I'm trying to find out more info on my spare BB / LT1 Corvette hood that I just pulled out of a long storage.

OEM smooth underside, also undrilled or LT1 style.

I found some faint numbers that I traced with paper and pencil. It reads:
01929 01 11 12357 or it could be
01029 01 11 12357

I thought it was the same as my 71 LS5- and it looks 99% the same- but someone made me aware that the hood prop bolt area (though it looks the same as my 71) was in a slightly different spot on 72s when measured.

If that's correct, I'm asking for any 72 LT1 owners to please help me here.

It's amazing that with all the info on the internet combined with all my Corvette resto/authentication guides, I can find no definitive info on hoods. Only generic discriptions and nothing about different latches, or hood props.

No help with the numbers but 70-71 hoods the mount for the hold open support for the hood is 6 or maybe 8 inches higher then a 72. The 72 support is an over center lock type is shorter and the 70-71 is a telescoping style with a gear style lock to hold the hood open is longer. I have seen over the counter replacement hood having nuts for both 70-71 and 72 support attach points.

It does have plastic-looking rivet-like plugs, but they look just like my 71's.

It could be for a 72 LT1 (with the a slightly different measurement/placement for hood prop bolts). I thought it came off a 70 or 71. That was over 20-some odd years ago, though, so memory might be off.

I have read your posting asking for help with a 1972 LT-1 hood measurement of the location of the bracket and hood support.
I measured at the end of the hood mounting bracket to the middle of the hood lifting prop. is eight inches.

I took some pics but they are too large- I'll resize them later.

Not sure where you're getting the 8" from.

My measurements from the rear hood corner to the front, first hood prop bolt hole is about 30-1/4" while my '71's is about 35-1/4". So they hood prop bolt area is in a different area.

As for the the other measurements:
At the front hood mounts, middle plastic plug rivets back to the middle of the hood prop bolt holes is about 15".

Perhaps the new scissor type hood prop for '72 is the reason for the different position. My '71 has a extending-type of hood prop, and is nearer to the front.

If you dig through the Archives here, the information is in there including measurements of the hole locations, etc.

Attached is a photo of a hood with 2 sets of mounting holes to give you and idea of where they are located. 2 of the upper holes have plugs.
Note the hinge holes are also there for reference (far right side of photo).

Sorry for the delay, computer problems. Thank you for the help.

if I'm "reading" it correctly, the pic above has 2 sets of holes for what, both hood props? The front holes are for the hood mounts, but I don't have two sets so close together.

Yes, mine is probably a service replacement hood, so has 70-71 holes AND 72 holes.
