    66 Red Line

On the face of a 66's tach can you tell what motor the car has by where the yellow/red is? I think there are 4 motor options in 66, does anyone have the motor/tach info?

    Thanks

I don't have one, but I would wager this information is in the 1966 TIM&JG. = Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide.

      327-300 is 5500
      327-350 is 6000
      427-390 is 5500
      427-425 is 6500

Why was redline on '66 390 hp 5500 then raised to 6000 in '67? Any actual difference in valve tains, etc. ?

Also wonder why the 390 was at 5500(in 66) and the 425 at 6500.

the 425hp is a solid lifter 4 bolt main motor as apposed to a hydraulic two bolt main 390hp motor

              Re: 66 Red Line

Looking at a 66's tach, there is a yellow line from 5700-6200rpm;there is now red line. Of course redline starts when the yellow ends. According to the specs given, it seems the tach is not correct for any motor option in 66. Could anyone shed light on this for me?

                Todd,

I would say the tach in question is from a 327/350hp convertible.

The original tach faces faded over time from UV exposure. The result woud look like a yellow line that started at 5700 rpm, went straight thru the start of the red line at 6000 rpm, and ended at 6200 rpm.

                  Jim,

Thanks for the information. I guess with a soft top the sun would fade the coloring out on the tach.

Thanks to everyone also for their responses.
