    Re: Paint sticker shock

Hi Guys & girls, Just got my 57 arctic blue & baige out of paint booth , I did all prep work & sprayed all interia myself, cost me 1100.oo for just the finish paints not including pream primers, etc. Got Duponts best , with hi solids clear, sealer, base & actors etc..., Plus close to a grand to a friend of friend to shoot it in a nice booth, shucks it sucks sometimes but finish came out like a 10K job, maybe worth it I guess now days when I here of these 10k plus jobs , the painter said thank the epa for some of this.........osha for some of it too. He also stated that the hobbie painters will be limited to two jobs a year as you will have to get a epa license to purshase paint soon(told not hard test to pass), (epa mandates 2012). I might just let someone refinish the next one, was a hassel to find someone who would just shoot the car as it was properly prepaired.... I enclosed paint materials receipt for your viewing pleasures...............

      Hi,
It sounds like the 2 qts of Mille Miglia acrylic lacquer held from my 71's paint job done about 5 years ago have been a better investment than silver coins!
Not too many people standing in line to buy them though.....
      Regards,
      Alan

Just got through painting the '56 Bird with lacquer, you don't want to know what it cost, but let me say the paint cost is very, very small compared to everything else

I recently checked the receipt for painting my '57 with Polo White nitrocellulose including the instrument panel face. I stripped all upholstery, chrome and trim except windshield frame and helped strip the paint. Total paint, materials and labor was about $137.00. But that was 46 years ago and the paint still looks as good as it did 45 years ago!
