    Distributor Id Question

I was cleaning out the garage and ran across a tach drive distributor with a vacuum advance unit but I have no idea what it is for. There is no ID band on it and I could not find any numbers. Is there a way to ID the application? Do the numbers 236 16 on the vacuum unit lead anywhere?

    Re: Distributor Id Question

The 236 16 vacuum advance was used on a number of high-perf applications, 1964-67, including 1111060, 062 063 064, 069, 085, 086, 087, 088, 119, 125, 156, 157, and 196. Not all of these were tach drive, but it is generally safe to say it was used on high performance enfgines.

Patrick, Look on the bottom of the distributor cam and tell us what number you see stamped on it.
Also look at the "football" on top of the main shaft. See what number is stamped on the football. Sounds like you have a 64-65 Corvette carb distributor. There are a few of those cars left out there you know. Once in a while a 64-65 carb car will show up at a show to be judged. Very rare vehicle. Just kiddin.

          Re: Distributor Id Question

Back in the late 1980's when I owned a 63 split window coupe I did some research on distributors. A friend of mine from NJ had a 63 Corvette F.I. distributor # 1111022 with the following:
          Cam stamped "724" and "CCW"
Top of shaft stamped "54" ("football")
          Vacuum Control "MS" "163" "15"

According to my 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog the 1111022 distributor used the following:
          Cam, GM # 1858990, Gr. 2.381
          Shaft, GM # 1961249, Gr. 2.372
Vacuum Control, GM # 1116201, Gr. 2.410 (replaced in Jan. 1965 with GM # 1116163)
