    57 trunk lock

Anyone know any tricks for installing the rear trunk lock in a 57? Do the teeth of the key go up or down? Is the locking tab piece installed with the lip up from the lock or from the bottom? Finally, I think you have to install the lock mechanism, then slide the lock in, through the tab piece hole, and finally holding everything together figure a wayto slide the tab under the lock tabs and thus hold it all together. A step by step procedure or hints on making it easier would greatly be appreciated. Tried supergluing the lock in once and it worked for a couple months but in the rain it let loose.

lubricate the retaining clip and the mating surfaces of the lock cylinder. if there is increased thichness of the trunk panel( bondo), you'll in for a hassle engaging the clip and the cylinder.mike

Update--A friend put me onto a glue (anerobic glue) called the "last glue". It comes with a filler compound. Repetitive glues and fills and glues, etc filled the gap and allowed the lock to seal and seal. I could also get the retaining clip to seat. Solved a 28 yr old problem. Anyone want the name and where to get let me know. It is not cheap but also bonds plastic shields (like on my Camaro) that are broken. Great product.

I found that there is a long clip and a shorter clip. The short clip is a lot easier to slide on than the longer one. Jim
