Thanks again guys. Well as luck would have it I managed to find some of the Meguires SO1O polish so I'll give that a try...by hand at first.

Jim, when you buffed your 70 by hand what did you use for applying the compound...Just a regular ole terry cloth or was it something else?

Alan I hope you are right in that I'll be better off for waiting so long! Hey did you ever find the right damming strip for your windshield? I haven't had much luck myself and I'll be putting the windshield in before the buffing starts so I guess I'll have to make due with what I have.

i wetsand and buff cars as part of my living in my detail shop. if you chose to use a buffer,slower is better in my experience. it lets the product stay wetter longer and greatly lowers the risk of burning the paint. a wool pad will stay cooler than a foam pad but will create more severe swirl marks. i would recommend hand polishing after using the wool pad until you have some time using the foam. it can create a lot of heat. whenever i walk into a body shop or dealership and hear a buffer cranking about 3000 rpms i just cringe. i also highly recommend using 3m green masking tape on the edges to keep any chance of burning the paint through. it will also help keep the product out of the jams and body seams. you should be real happy with meguiers. thats all i use and its a great product. also try practicing on an older car with no value. ask your painter for a panel to practice on.
