    Advice on original docs please...

    Hi everyone,

My 1965 396 was originally purchased from Al Baumann Chevrolet Inc., 2247 West State Street, Fremont, Ohio. The car received a body-off restoration in June 1995 and won awards consisting of Bloomington Gold - June 1995, Gold Spinner/Triple Crown Chevy Vette Fest - November 1995, and Zora Arkus Dontov Award - August 1996. Unfortunately, I only received copies of these awards as the owner at the time kept the originals. I haven't had any luck tracking down the owner... is there a good way to track down these documents? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to verify the NCRS awards thru NCRS.

NCRS hasn't been able to help yet. I will keep trying.

        Thanks,

Chuck, Get a hold of Roy Sinor, from the members page, if the car has been judged by NCRS, he'll have the record.

What's your objective? The awards are NOT transferable to a subsequent owner you know...

NCRS provides a service to members (NOT cheap) to certify a given car's judging history by VIN if your objective is to simply verify that your car, under prior ownership, won the various NCRS awards that it's claimed to have earned.

For documentation on the non-NCRS awards (BG and Triple Crown), you need to contact those authorities directly...

Thanks for the info and I do know they are non-transferable. I just thought it would be nice to be able to track down the original (at time of awards) owner to see if he would part with the original documents. It would be nice to keep them with the car, and I'd love to have them! I gave the name of the owner on the NCRS award to a nice person in the NCRS office and was given two cities for two different previous members... neither panned out. Now this was before I purchased the car, I will get more serious about it rthis summer. Again, nothing to gain except to have the original awards.

Will it be appropriate to post copies of these awards on this site to see if that helps me find the owner? Is it appropriate to post the owner's name?

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Good luck with that. My car received Top Flight and Bloomington Gold back in 1986 while it was owned by another guy. When I finally tracked him down, he mentioned that he had the awards. I asked if he was willing to part with them and he predictably said "No." He did, however, send me some very nice photographs of the awards he received while he owned the car. I got Top Flight back in 2007, and to be honest, if I ever sell my car, I'll be keeping the award. Maybe you can convince the prior owner to send you a few photos if you find him/her. Maybe you'll get lucky and the prior owner will give them up. It doesn't hurt to ask.
