I own a stock 1972 Corvette Coupe. I was thinking of installing a 1973 hood. This would eliminate the vent and the wiper door infront of the windshield. Hopefully, it would eliminate the vaccum lines for the door and the switch. Would this work and would the wippers come up from under the hood without hitting the lip on the hood? I would probably have to redo the wipper switch to operate the wippers using the same dash switch. Would any of the vaccum lines on that side of the car go to headlights? What do think- good idea or not? Thanks Carl

Re: 73 Hood:
The stock '73 and up hood contour would also not match the top of the fenders where they meet the glass.
Fix the stock door and mechanism, much better solution in the long run.- Top

Re: 73 Hood:
Carl,
I don't know the answer to your question, but something else for you to investigate would be the alignment of the trailing edge of the hood with the top rear edges of your fenders.
On your stock '72, you have the three piece molding at the top corners of the fenders and the trailing edge of the wiper door. A 1973 hood has an upward curl at the rear edge allowing clearance for the wipers, and I believe that curl blends in with a curled contour on the fender corners that would not match your 1972.
In other words, the hood may open and close; the wiper system may be made to work; the vacuum system may be modified to perform as needed; but, the body lines between the hood and fender corners may not appear as smooth as with all stock components.

Carl------
Getting the system to work properly can be extremely frustrating, especially if it's been partially "butchered" by some previous owner or if it's been left to fall into complete disrepair. I believe the kind of modification you suggest can be accomplished with aftermarket-type components.
However, you need to understand that making such a mod will GREATLY detract from the value of the car. How much? Well, AT LEAST as much as it will cost to restore the original configuration. I do not recommend such a modification. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 73 Hood:
Yes, it will work, been done many times before.
No change to the wiper switch is necessary. Wipers will clear with no problem.
Now, as the the subjective part of your post. Yes, bad idea from a value point of view. However, you are no making changes that cannot be undone, and it MAY be a much cheaper solution than getting that vacuum wiper door stuff working.- Top
