    Hi Les,
Are you referring to the heating unit itself.
The info in the AIM UPC12, Sheet B2, seems to indicate that the element unscrews from it's cylindrical retainer and is then released from the chrome plated rectangular retainer for the element and ash tray.
I replaced my rectangular retainer because it was rusty. It seemed to be a good repacemet except that I had to search a bit for one that hadn't been scratched when the cylindrical retainer for the element had been installed.
    Regards,
    Alan

The 'housing' (your term) consists of two parts: the power socket and its retainer. The socket inserts through the center console plate from the top side and the retainer slips over the socket from the bottom and threads into place 'pinching' the assy against the console plate.

It's VERY common for the mating threads of the retainer and socket to oxidize over the years making the two components difficult to disassemble. What ususally works like gang busters is a slow short spritz of a good penetrating oil (I like Aerokroil) onto the threads with a short sitting time before you unscrew the retainer...

The power socket should have a brass fitting similar to a baby bottle nipple threaded onto it's power stud to accept the slide-on barrel connector of the wiring harness. That's unless Bubba has been there, didn't understand the brass nipple could be unscrewed and moved over onto the replacement socket he installed and he used a threaded L-bracket on the power stud and replaced the wiring harness barrel connector with a spade lug slip on.

The illuminating lamp for the power socket simply clips onto the side of the socket retainer. Squeeze it to retract its retaining clips and it'll pull free.
