    70 Headlight Washer Check Valves

Getting ready for the Wildwood regional and have a question re the check valves for the headlight washers. Are the hoses that connect these valves wrapped in tape like some of the hoses on the vacuum system? Any response or pics would be great. Tx.

My 70 had original hoses and the check valves did not have any tape.

Hopefully Terry will check in to confirm.

          I should have asked first.

Do you mean the white valves down under the nose on both sides? This is where the red striped hoses attach.

If so, those definitely have tape. It is the nylon tape. I found some 3M tape that was perfect other than the width which I cut down.

It is getting late and I should have thought about it a little more

Yes those are the check valves that prevent the washer fluid from draining back. I also have the 3M tape and I have to cut it down to the correct width. Tx for your help.

              Joseph

I would not expect this tape to be used on the headlamp washer hoses. Where I would expect it would be on the vacuum hose connections and tee points. That would be my opinion others may have a different one.

Just to be sure Joe -- you are asking about the headlamp washer hoses? The barrel shaped T under/behind the headlamps.

I know what I think the answer should be, and Paul gave you my off-the-top-of-my-head answer, but I will have to go look at my 1970 to be sure. Have some patience I have a lot on my list.

If this is what you are referring to...

...I have never seen tape on an original car. I've seen variations of the valve...

                  ...but, I've not seen tape.

Shouldn't that valve be a bit whiter?

                        Mark,

You probably know this but your white/black valve is 70-71, the black valve is 69. Look at the size of the 3 ports. the 70-71's have all 1/8" ports and the 69's have the 2 inline ports 1/8" and the Tee is 3/16". If you check the AIM's the PT# should change from 69 to 70. This is because of placement of the valves.

I most certainly did not know that. Thanks for the education, Rich.

                              Hmmmm.

I am really curious to see what Terry says.

I wish I had taken pictures. My 70 definitely had tape identical to the vaccuum connections. All the hoses were original. In fact, I reused the original red striped hoses.
