    LED Tail Lites on Midyear

Has anybody used LED lite bulb replacements on Midyear tail lights?
    How many LEDs?
    Any special manufacturer?
    Are they a lot brighter?
Do the turn signals blink OK?
Do the bulbs fit in the housings?
As you suspect this is for a driver not flight judging.

      thank you Jack.

I think I'll stay with the old fashion bulbs since they look brighter in the photo.......

Gene, I have LED bulbs in everything we own. I have learned bulbs are not equal. With that said, the time it takes for a LED to illuminate is one car lenght shorter at 60 mph. How many rear end collisions would that prevent?

Dick, the earlier someone else can see my tail lights the better. What brand, model number are you using on your mid yr vettes that is brighter than the old bulbs.

The photo in the old posting didn't look as if the LED's were brighter......yes/no?

Also do the brighter LED bulbs fit in the mid yr tail light housings without modifications. Some of them look kinda big...yes/no?

            Gene,

Check out www.uapac.com, they manufacture L.E.D. tail light assemblies for Corvettes through 1996.

They also sell L.E.D. bulbs which I personally do not recommend.

            Check your email.

              Bruce,

Can you send me the same email/pm?

I think I know what it is referring to, and I may be interested myself.

Fleabay bulbs, just read the specs, find the brightest. They went into the housings on a '72 which are about the same as far and opening for the bulb and the depth.

Gene: I have the uapac lights in my 67, I think they are safer and agree with Dick.
The only problem I had was getting the wire pigtail to wind up tight enough to fit inside the lens cone. The wire kept trying to get under the edge of the lens and get pinched. It just took some work to not pinch the wires. I've had them in for over a year. Ordered from an ad in Driveline, guy in Dayton OH area.
                    Good Luck

                      Jack,

I agree with your comment concerning the wires on the UAPAC tail lights and I have suggested to the manufacturer that they shorten the wires and reduce the wire size.
Since the lights draw very little current a larger gauge size wire would be sufficient and also result in a cost savings.

Bruce, you have to be careful when you reduce the wire size. It reduces the strength of the wire and could result in breaking due to vibrations. The have to have extra support

                          Good point.
