    Seat Belt Indicator Light 1970

The seat belt indicator light on the Center Console never illuminates on my 1970. In the judging manual it discuss the other years but not the 1970 it does not say if it even turns on preparing the car for judging what is correct?

Seat belt warning lamp for 1970 Corvettes illuminates each time the ignition key is turned to ON. Light remains illuminated until either the button below the light is pressed, the ignition switch is turned OFF, or the lamp burns out -- whichever occurs first.

The light should illuminate every time you rotate your ignition key from off to Acc/Run/Start. It should extinguish when you ether push the reset button or return the key to off. Normal test during Ops is for the light to extinguish when the reset button is pushed.

I have replaced the center dash cluster guage bezels and also put in a new seat belt warning assembly button in my 71. My seat belt warning light will not go off when the button is pushed. It did work previous to replacing this. Any ideas?

The switch mechanism at the back of the seat belt lamp reset button is not very sophisticated. Considering you have changed the center dash cluster gauge bezel I would take a look at that mechanism. I know it is difficult to get it back out, but that is my bet.

What is it that I would be able to see that is wrong?

If I knew that I could make a lot more money than I am now, but my crystal ball is broken. You do realize that troubleshooting via the Internet is a less than precise process since I don't have access to the components and have to do my best to use words to communicate my guesses to you.

I would suggest once the center bezel is out you can watch the operation (or lack of it) of the reset switch components on the back of the bezel as the reset button is pressed. When installing a new bezel one has to transfer the reset switch components from the old bezel to the new. There is ample opportunity for an improper installation or damage to the switch parts during this transfer. One should be sure the parts are all properly functioning before the reinstall, and then be careful not to damage them in the installation process.

Edit add: As I thought about your situation some more on the airplane to Texas I realized since two of you are having the same problem it may be that the reproduction bezels are not exactly properly formed on the backside in the area of the reset switch mechanism. It may be worth comparing the original bezel to the replacement in this area. Perhaps some precise measurements are in order.
