I just bought a 1982 collector edition. When I received the car the antenna would not come up but the radio would pick up some station. Now the radio still comes on but I get no sound at all. I have no digital read-out at all except the fm or am in the corner of the screen. It like something has shorted out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Radio help for my 82
'Shorted'...what makes you think something's short circuited vs. open circuited???
Diagnose by disconnecting the antenna lead-in wire where it's bananna plug inserts into the radio chassis at the dash. Plug in an el-cheapo, all in one (antenna mast with captive lead-in cable) that you can get off the shelf at, say, WalMart for $7-10.
Does your radio instantly snap back into operation (AM and FM)? If so, your problem lies EITHER in the radio to antenna lead-in wiring or at the antenna mast itself. Diagnose as appropriate and remember, by the late 70's/early 80's the radios were getting tricky with AM/FM, AM/FM/Tape and AM/FM/CB options. The antenna supporting components have to match the specific system!- Top
