1967 Interior Paint Color Red DuPont

We are trying to figure out what shades of red are correct on my 1967. I purchased many years ago two quarts of DuPont lacquer - there were two shades of Rally Red listed: DuPont 4688LH (60 gloss) and 9188LM (3 gloss). We are trying to match the dash and speaker grille which still have the original red paint, but was hoping that we could get some direction if different interior components were painted different shades of gloss. Would the dash, lower windshield trim, speaker grille, radio side panels have been the dull red and the shifter console and emergency brake console be the more glossy red?

Any help would be much appreciated! Attached is a picture of the rolling chassis and body which has since been reunited!!

    Jeff,

the detail on your car is awsome!! You are correct. The dash frame, speaker grill, lower windshield moulding, radio side panels, kick panel trim, jack compartment are low gloss. Then the shifter console, 1/4 trim panels and pinstripe on the inner jam are 60% gloss.
Personally I have seen the kick panel trim with a 60% gloss and the shifter console a low gloss on occasion.

The best way to prep the bare fiberglass parts is to strip them with thinner and scotch brite. Then over reduce some red oxide lacquer primer and spray a few wet coats onto the pieces. When dry scuff lightly the parts with 400 grit paper and then grey scotch brite. Followed by a few coats of thinned out lacquer paint. I would over reduce the lacquer to obtain a fine peel and let it lay out nice.
If done correctly you will have a typical factory look to your interior fiberglass pieces with the grain and texture showing through.

    Hope this helps, Rich

Jeff, I have been going thru the same on my 66 saddle car. From what I am seeing on my original interior parts,I would agree with your statement on the low gloss parts vs the higher gloss items.

'65 color chart calls for 3 degree(low gloss) on IP, Windshield lower Garnish, Radio screen, Heater outlet, and jack stowage wells, als Directional housing, Steering column escutcheon, Glove box frame, and "linkage cover panel inner" Full gloss on windshield side and upper mouldings, Halo panel, Hardtop Garnish, door upper inner kick panel retainer, lock pillar return flange and cap. Not sure I recognize all those from the description, but that's the list.

Any body know what the linkage panel cover inner is?

The only thing I see not listed would be the shifter console. So as a guess it might be that............. But on second thought it could be the dash frame itself (that covers the wiper transmission/linkage) Everything else I can figure out.

              Russ -

I think they're referring to the quarter inner trim panel on a convertible; the plastic panel that hides the convertible top linkage aft of the lock pillar.

If you know who "they" are, let me know, so I can write them a letter and try to warm them up to the "big bucks" concept .

This might be helpful, I think Wayne may have posted it originally. If anyone knows, what catalog did this Interior Paint Chart come from?

The small print is not so easy to read, this is what it says (notes in parentheses are mine, "linkage cover panel" updated, thanks John):

                      Low Gloss Colors 3

                      Used On:

                      Windshield Lower Garnish Molding (interior)

                      Instrument Panel (fiberglass areas)
Heater Outlet Panel (i.e., radio cover side panels?)

                      Glove Box Frame
