The right side female (hood side) latch interferes with a rivet on the underside of the hood. Additionally the bolts don't line up exactly, I can get three in but not the fourth. Are there two similiar but different right side hood latches?

Hi Mike
I don't remember but do you have a an early to mid 68, late 68, or early 69 or late 69. Do you have one clip or 2 clips that hold your upper hood latch cable to the.
Can you take some pics of your hood latches and email me grantwong@telus.net
There is different latches for different years.

Re: Hood latch problem
H Grant, I took some pictures but forgot to bring my camera home. The hood has two threaded holes for the clamps. I will try to remember the camera tomorrow.

Re: Hood latch problem
Mike-----
2 threaded holes for the cross-over cable clamps indicates a 1968 to very late 1969 (until about October, 1969) hood. That hood must be used with the corresponding upper latches AND with the "tulip"-shaped lower hood latch bolts.
The correct upper hood latches and lower lock bolts are pictured below.
In addition to the fact that the right (passenger) side upper lock plate bolt pattern is different between the 1968 to very late 1969 and very late 1969 to 1976 lock plates, note that the early style lock plates have a narrower and shorter radius for the end of the bolt catch lever as seen in the second photo. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Hood latch problem
Thanks Joe, the car was built 10/2/69 and its original paint matched the rest of the car so it is probably correct. The hood latch did not come with the car, so I suspect it is wrong. I will compare it to your pictures.Mike-----

Re: Hood latch problem
Here are pictures of the hood and lock. If I am interpreting correctly, the hood is correct for a late 69 car but the lock is for something later(?) The blue tape is where the parts make contact.

Re: Hood latch problem
Mike------
I believe what you have here is a 68-E69 hood and a L69-76 hood latch. I cannot really see the latch too clearly, especially the lock release lever, but I think it's a L69-76 latch. In addition to the interference you noted, I think you will find the bolt pattern of the latch and the hood will not match. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Hood latch problem
When you say "early" 69 is this hood consistant with an Oct 69 build date? The original paint on the hood matched the rest of the body. I will get another photo of the latch.

Re: Hood latch problem
As far as hoods go, the "early 1969" hood continued to at least sometime in October, 1969, if not later. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
