2 round holes under where the soft top stores?

So I started really cleaning the storage space for my soft top (tons of fine CA sand) and along with noticing that the place which installed my new soft top stole the original fabric that was attached to the fiberglass tray (they even left behind the little tufts of fabric where it was glued) that there are 2 round holes...

The holes seem about 1.5" around maybe a bit more, they go through all the layers and are perfect circles. I also take notice that the red paint is on the inside of the cut as if they were cut at teh factory before painting.

I *think* these are holes for the optional power assist soft top. My question, were these holes drilled in ALL bodies in late 1956 or only on cars that actually got the option?

    Thanks!

Here are a couple pics I just borrowed from eBay from a PT car.

They are the 2 round holes near the corners of the canvas/felt on the bottom of the storage compartment...

        Alex -

Those are the access holes to get a socket on the upper attachment of the rear shocks to the frame crossmember; all cars had them. In production, they had a square cardboard "seal" glued over them. See your Assembly Manual, Section "J", sheet 3.00, View "A".

AIM revision shows prior to 3/25/57 they used masking tape to seal the holes.

Ok, got it. Mine had old black electrical tape I ripped off.

When I took the gas tank out of my 57 under it I found the 2 round disks that had been cut out of those holes.
