Midyear BB vs SB Fuel Lines

    Hi guys,

Can someone tell me if there was a size difference between midyear BB and SB Fuel Lines. That is, were BB fuel lines 3/8 and SB 5/16 or were both 3/8?

    Thanks,
    Dave

        Dave,

Joe and Wayne are correct on the size. There is a configuration difference between small and big block though. The forward/fuel pump end of the pipe is shaped differently.

Don't the BB and HP small blocks use larger fuel lines than the low hp,at and after the pump?

Michael, I know the differences in configuration of the two lines. My question generated from having a bunch of original fuel line clamps. Some are 5/16th the others are 3/8th.

Maybe this explains what I'm trying to figure out. Did small blocks use 5/16th hose clamps because the hose at the fuel pump was smaller than on big blocks?

            Thanks,
            Dave

              David,

The size of the long fuel tank to fuel pump line and the hoses/clamps used at each end of that line would be the same for both small and big block.

Fuel lines from the fuel pump to the filter/carburetor on big blocks do not use clamps or hoses.

Right. Now I'm referencing the rubber hose that goes from the gas tank to steel fuel line (in the back) and the rubber hose that goes from the steel fuel line in the front to the fuel pump. Both hoses use two clamps each.

                    David,

Yes, that's correct. And the size is the same for both small and big block.

                      Dave -

Those main tank-to-pump hard lines and the connecting rubber hoses at each end were 3/8" from mid-'56 through at least the C3 era, on everything from the base 265 to the L-88. Prior to mid-'56, they were 5/16".

I answered your question. Twice. What was wrong with my answer?
