    67 Dehydrator/Drier Sight Glass Cap

Have a question for you. I have a 67 drier mounted in my car. As you can see from the picture (picture 1) it has a hex shaped sight window. Recently found one of the "rare as hens teeth" sight glass covers (pictures 2-4). As you can see it is round. Tried to put the cap in the window and it didn't fit (like a square peg in a round hole). Is this set-up correct, or do I have the wrong cap? Does it just "jam" in? Thanks.

Kirk -- have never seen a hex fitting on the widow. Here's a service unit I ordered early '80's; you can see the brass slots in the fitting. I've never unscrewed the cap/cover but will do and photograph if it helps.

P.S. I have what I think is the original drier in my car and another spare that was given to me. They all have the brass fitting with a slot on each side.

I'm with Wayne, never seen a hex on a midyear.

Unless I miss my guess that is made by/for Four Seasons and either sold under their brand or maybe another brand. The shape of the cannister gives it away.

In 63 I worked in the A/C repair dept for a Chevy dealer. I saw BOTH types of driers. The only plug used, back then, was a red tapered plug with a lip. On unmolested driers, it would have been painted flat black along with the drier.

I would agree with Ken - the 67 has a round glass with the red tapered plug painted flat black.

Ken - Very interesting on the '63 A/C drier sight plug being red and painted black. Unfortunately, the only example of an original A/C drier I have seen did not have the sight plug; but I've seen numerous post 1963 production A/C driers, used and NOS, with sight plugs in place and must admit I've never see a red one when I've removed them for the drier; but now I have something new to be looking for. What are the words in that song "paint it black, black as night." Pete
