    Hi,

Good cars are where you find them. But where ever you look, look very closely............especially for accident damage, in IMHO. It seems that a relatively high percentage of collector cars have been in at least ONE, if not more, accidents since the day the final inspector placed his "stamp of approval" on it. Nothing worse for me than body repair done less than VERY professionally........and a lot of it doesn't meet my standards. Best to get one that's never been hit. And we don't even want to talk about frame damage! Good luck. Oh, with Corverttes we have an advantage not enjoyed by all collector cars.......date codes on all the glass. If the codes don't match, run--don't walk away and don't even say good bye.

      Dernard,

I would start with the Driveline and contacting members of your local chapter NCRS - word of mouth. Know what you're looking for (options, colors, hp, etc.) and what you're not. Be patient! When you find a car that meets your criteria, take someone who can help evaluate the car, or hire one (numbers, damage, etc.), and then agree on a price. Now seems to be a good time to buy - good luck.

I wish I was in a position to be looking for another C2

      Cheers
      Rob

You can find "numbers matching" just about any place. There are usually considerable differences in the above description and "original numbers." Just know there is a difference and inspect very carefully. If the drive train is "original" it will be advertised as such.

Rob hit it on the head....BE PATIENT...I am looking for a real 67 Coupe and I have looked a TON of them and for some reason in the past year a ton of cars with bad VIN plates have come on the market...If you don't know what to look for, ask for help....If could be a very costly mistake....Word of mouth is the best way to go...Don't fight or get into a "bidding" war on a car you just love, but don't know anything about....There are a ton of "less than NCRS" cars out there for sale, but if you're patient you will be soooooo pleased with your decision....I am fortunate and blessed to have 2 wonderful cars in my garage that are not for sale....and they're not for sale because I know how hard it is to find a "good" car....You will find one...be paitent and ask for help when you feel over your head.....I think I know what I am doing and I still ask for help....It's the smartest decision you'll make.....Best of luck and welcome to the NCRS....there's a great bunch of guys and gals here to help you......ARA

There is no substitute for learning as many details as you can before actively pursuing a car. Being an Observer Judge is helpful, and getting a copy of the most current Judging Guide is recommended.
You can love the car and still be demanding regarding what you pay for the car. This may be one of the best markets for "good" cars, since they may be owned by folks who have to sell (for a variety of reasons).
But you have to know the difference (or hire someone who does).

            GOOD LUCK!!

Great advice by the posts above that anyone but the most experienced should take.

                Bernard,

Now's an excellent time to buy (not as good as last winter, but still good). Prices are down and there are good cars out there. Just remember that buying a Corvette is very different. In order to know the correct price, you've got to know if the car has the correct parts on it. That means spending some time with the numbers game and getting "smart" before you make an offer.

As far as your original question, the auction sites are good places, although you have to be careful with the high brow ones like Barrett Jackson (very expensive). Mecum is good and so is Russo and Steele. Car shows are good places to find cars for sale. There are also web sites such as those I listed in Post #2 of this thread:

ProTeam has excellent cars, and they know 'Vettes very well. But remember all the big dealers are in business to make money, they will be pricey. You get what you pay for if you follow the advice given here. Sometimes it takes months of searching, sometimes a few weeks, but now is a great time to buy classic cars. I have bought two over the last 5 months since so many hit the market with motivated sellers. Just be clear what you want and be laser-focused on that, and do your homework.
